Wood-Wood

Wood-Wood floor reinforcement

As part of the restoration, this type of intervention makes possible to create a completely dry and therefore reversible structure. The reinforcement is obtained by superimposing a new wooden beam on the existing one, making it integral through the innovative Al-fer Self-Levelling Connector.

The benefits of an Al-fer dry connector

Increased stiffness at low thickness

Increased resistance and reduced loads

Static and seismic improvement

5/6 connectors per sqm on average

System construction in the thickness of the reinforcement

Thermo-acoustic improvement of the deck

In the monumental restoration of buildings subject to supervision, the material principle of preservation of the existing structure without the use of concrete is often imposed. To this end, the wood-wood intervention is the only possible solution. Al-fer has designed the self-levelling  connector with a single 16 mm diameter piece suitably machined to ensure the best seal between the materials and to facilitate their installation.The inertia is increased by reducing the weight to a minimum, in fact the structural loads represent only a 25% share compared to the wood-concrete solution. This solution is optimal especially from the seismic point of view where a lower plane mass corresponds to a reduced inertial force.The particular conical thread with reverse fit together with the washer in the head induce a sort of vertical pre-compression between the contact materials with consequent reduction of the horizontal slides and therefore of the vertical deformations

Installation

Installation is simple does not require a specialised worker:

pre-drill with 11.5 mm tip diameter up to the maximum depth;

The hole is widened with a 16 mm diameter tip just beyond the existing planking;

Connector fastened by means of a thrust screwdriver (min 280 Nm ) until the first head is completely penetrated into the wood and the upper part is Self-Shearing

The limit stop and washer mechanically compress the new wooden beam against the floor board and therefore the existing wooden beam thus improving the effectiveness of the connection.
